Sky News has announced that Sophy Ridge and Wilfred Frost will take over the breakfast presenting slot following Kay Burley's retirement in February after 36 years at the network. Burley, 64, stepped down live on air, and the new duo will launch a revamped morning show later this year.
Wilfred Frost confirmed the news on X, stating he was 'insanely pumped' about the programme and praised his partnership with Ridge. Sophy Ridge responded, expressing excitement about the role and joking about the early morning coffee consumption required. Ridge has been a political correspondent since 2011 and hosted 'Sophy Ridge on Sunday' from 2017 to 2023, while Frost has served as a relief presenter on Sky's breakfast show and worked with CNBC and NBC News.
Burley announced her departure live on air in February, saying: 'From a standing start to one of the most recognised and valued brands in global news, it's been an honour and privilege.' She noted she had covered over a million minutes of live TV news, 12 general elections, and major events including the September 11 attacks and the death of Princess Diana. She joked that politicians would 'rejoice' at her retirement.
Viewers reacted with praise, calling Burley 'an absolute icon' and noting her 'long and distinguished career.' Sky News Executive Chairman David Rhodes shared an internal memo highlighting her role as a founding member who helped build the network from its 1989 launch.
