EastEnders fans are in for a shock as Kat Slater makes a surprise return to Albert Square, just as her family plans her funeral. The iconic character, played by Jessie Wallace, is back to cause chaos, with her cousin Stacey Slater bearing the brunt of the disruption.
Jean and Mo Slater have already returned, with Mo claiming Kat is dead. Actress Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey, revealed that the Slaters' resurgence 'sort of ruins Stacey's life'. The family's comeback is orchestrated by show boss John Yorke, who aims to highlight the strong, feisty women synonymous with EastEnders and the soap genre.
Turner added: 'The Slaters coming back just sort of ruins Stacey's life. They just come back and cause a lot of trouble and expect Stacey to put it all back together.' She noted the challenge of working with returning cast members, saying: 'We're quite useless working together because all we do is laugh.'
This is not the first time EastEnders has welcomed back a fan favourite. Dirty Den, shot in 1989 and presumed dead, returned in 2003 after surviving and emigrating to Spain. Kat's return promises similar drama, as the community had rallied to hold a fundraiser for her funeral.
