Karen Pirie Season 2 Finale Reveals Cat Grant Orchestrated Her Own Kidnapping

The season 2 finale of ITV's Karen Pirie unveiled the truth behind the 1984 kidnapping of Cat Grant and her infant son Adam. It was revealed that Cat herself was the mastermind, plotting to punish her father Brodie for covering up deaths caused by his oil operations. She planned to start a new life with her son and boyfriend Mick Prentice.

Mick brought in friend Andy, who then involved Kevin—a volatile figure Mick distrusted. Kevin brought a gun to the kidnapping against instructions and later threatened to expose Cat's involvement. In response, Cat shot and killed him. His body, discovered at the start of the season, reopened the investigation led by Detective Karen Pirie.

During the ransom handover at a cave, Brodie's wife Lady Mary followed him. Unaware of Cat's role, she shot Cat twice, fatally wounding her, and then collapsed the cave entrance, trapping Cat's body. Brodie and Mary kept silent, believing Cat might have escaped. Mick and Andy fled to Italy, where Mick raised Adam as his own son, Gabriel.

In the present, Gabriel learned the truth when Karen's team arrived. Brodie and Mary were arrested, and Gabriel met his biological father, Fergus. Gabriel declined his inheritance, saying he was 'not like' Fergus, and chose to stay with Mick in Malta, where extradition is not possible. Karen wrapped up the case and returned to appear in a documentary she had previously walked out on.
