Karen Gillan's New Horror Film Oculus to Premiere in Toronto

Scots actress Karen Gillan's latest film, Oculus, is set to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this month. The Inverness-born star plays the lead role of Kaylie, a woman convinced that a 300-year-old mirror is responsible for her parents' murder.

The US horror movie, directed by Mike Flanagan, is based on a short film he made in 2006. Gillan, best known for her role as a former assistant to the BBC's Doctor Who, has also been cast in Marvel's upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy.

At Comic-Con International in San Diego in July, Gillan unveiled a new look for the Marvel movie by pulling off a red wig to reveal a shaven head. The stunt came during a presentation on Guardians of the Galaxy, which will also star Zoe Saldana and Benicio Del Toro. Gillan will play a ruthless space pirate called Nebula, and the film is due for release next year.
