Jon Kay and Sally Nugent face 12-hour flight delay

BBC Breakfast presenters Jon Kay and Sally Nugent feared they would miss Monday's show after a 12-hour flight delay left them stuck in an airport over the weekend. The pair eventually made it to the Salford studio with just hours to spare.

Close Call After Holiday Return

Jon Kay took to Instagram at the start of the week to share a video of himself and Sally in an airport as they returned from a trip with family and friends. The clip showed them both at an airport in Geneva at 9pm, with Kay telling followers their flight had been delayed for 12 hours.

In the video, Kay then covered the camera lens, and when he removed his hand, it showed them both in the Salford studio, eight hours later. He captioned the post: "Blimey. That was close. After a lovely weekend away with friends and family, Sally and I had a twelve-hour flight delay - and feared we might miss Monday's @bbcbreakfast. But - hey - we made it. Who needs sleep?"

Fans React to the Ordeal

Fans responded to the post with support and humour. One person suggested they would have had to take Breakfast to the airport, while another commented: "What a team!!! Can't imagine the stress…" Someone else wrote: "Both looked great this morning though!!!" A third fan added: "Amazing and you two still look good at 5am."

As one person said: "Ahhhh, I'd be proper panicking." Someone else commented: "Wow, no sleep, really wouldn't think it though lol"

Sally Nugent's Early Morning Routine

In the past, Sally has spoken about her routine ahead of arriving for work, sharing that her alarm goes off at 3:45am, which meant the duo would not have got much sleep following their airport chaos.

Earlier this month, the BBC star opened up on her journey to work as part of the This Is Our BBC campaign. A voiceover of Sally explained: "That car journey into work is really crucial, I have half an hour in the dark, everyone else is asleep, and I can go through the notes that the team have prepared through the night."

After a clip showed her and Jon going through their notes, Sally added: "I was out on the road as a reporter for many, many years, so I know the pressure to make sure we get everything absolutely right. I ask the questions on behalf of the people at home. We hear the answers, then the people at home can make up their own minds."

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
