Netflix has confirmed that Joanna Lumley will be promoted to a series regular for the third season of Wednesday, joining Jenna Ortega in the Addams Family spin-off. Lumley, who plays Wednesday's grandmother Granmama Hester Frump, was previously a recurring guest star.
Production on season three has begun in Dublin, with Tim Burton returning as director and executive producer. The showrunners, Al Gough and Miles Millar, teased new students, new teachers, and “long-rotting Addams Family secrets” in a press release.
However, not all cast members are returning. Noah B. Taylor, who played werewolf Bruno Yuson, will exit the series after his character was revealed to have cheated on Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) in season two. This marks the second time a romantic interest has left the show after one season; Percy Hynes White was dropped ahead of season two following misconduct allegations.
Winona Ryder will join the cast as a recurring guest star, reuniting with Burton and her Beetlejuice Beetlejuice co-star Ortega. Other newcomers include Chris Sarandon, Oscar Morgan, Kennedy Moyer, and another actor named Noah Taylor. Eva Green has also been cast as the long-lost sister of Morticia Addams, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Returning cast members include Ortega, Myers, Jones, Luis Guzmán, Hunter Doohan, Billie Piper, and Joy Sunday, with Fred Armisen continuing as Uncle Fester. Burton expressed excitement about the new season, highlighting the addition of past collaborators.
