JK Rowling Visits Harry Potter HBO Set as Daniel Radcliffe Welcomes New Star
JK Rowling Visits Harry Potter HBO Set Amid Cast Support

Best-selling author JK Rowling has made a significant appearance on the set of the highly anticipated HBO Harry Potter television series, an event described by insiders as resembling a 'royal visit'.

A Royal Welcome on Set

The writer, who is serving as an executive producer on the new adaptation, was present at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on 19 November to observe the progress of the show. The series, announced by HBO Max in 2023, plans to adapt each of the seven books in Rowling's iconic series into its own season, creating a 'decades-long' television event.

Rowling's involvement extends beyond a titular role. Back in June, she took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her enthusiasm, writing that the first two episodes of the show are 'SO, SO, SO GOOD!'. When questioned if she was penning the scripts herself, she clarified: 'No, but I’ve worked closely with the extremely talented writers.'

Daniel Radcliffe's Heartfelt Gesture

In a parallel development that has charmed fans, Daniel Radcliffe, the original screen Harry Potter, revealed he has reached out to his successor. Radcliffe disclosed during an appearance on Good Morning America that he sent a letter to 11-year-old Dominic McLaughlin, the young actor taking on the legendary role.

'I wrote to Dominic and I sent him a letter and he sent me a very sweet note back,' Radcliffe recalled. His message was one of pure support and well-wishing for the new generation of young actors. 'I just wanted to write to him to say, 'I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did — I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time.''

Radcliffe, who was also 11 when he was first cast, expressed a protective and nostalgic sentiment towards McLaughlin and his young co-stars, saying: 'I just see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them.'

Controversy and Champagne

Rowling's high-profile involvement in the series comes amidst her status as a contentious figure, following a series of controversial comments she has made about the transgender community since 2019. This has led to calls for a boycott of the new TV reboot.

In a characteristically sarcastic response on X in April, the author addressed these activist efforts. 'Dreadful news, which I feel duty bound to share,' she wrote. 'Activists in my mentions are trying to organise yet another boycott of my work, this time of the Harry Potter TV show. As forewarned is forearmed, I've taken the precaution of laying in a large stock of champagne.'

As production for the new Harry Potter HBO series continues at pace, the blend of nostalgic support from its original stars and the unwavering, if controversial, involvement of its creator ensures the project remains firmly in the global spotlight.
