Jesse Metcalfe has expressed regret over passing up the chance to audition for the role of Vincent Chase in the hit HBO series Entourage. The actor, who rose to fame on Desperate Housewives in 2004, admitted he skipped the audition after reading the pilot script and dismissing it as 'stupid'.
Speaking to People, Metcalfe said: 'Obviously, I had no idea what I was talking about. That ended up being an iconic show that I absolutely love, and definitely wish I was a part of.' The role ultimately went to Adrian Grenier, who played the movie star Vince for eight seasons from 2004 to 2011, with a film sequel in 2015.
The series, created by Doug Ellin, followed Vince and his friends—brother Drama (Kevin Dillon), best friend E (Kevin Connelly), and pal Turtle (Jerry Ferrara)—as they navigated Hollywood life, aided by agent Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven). It featured numerous celebrity cameos, including Martin Scorsese, Mark Wahlberg, and Tom Brady.
Metcalfe, known for films like John Tucker Must Die, acknowledged his mistake: 'I blew that one. Sometimes you gotta say no, but that was the wrong one. It taught me that I don’t know everything.' He added that the experience made him 'absolutely' more willing to audition for roles, saying he has been 'auditioning for what it feels like is everything lately.'
