Jeff Brazier faced an awkward moment on Friday's edition of This Morning when he called a winner live on air to announce a £200,000 prize. The TV star, 46, picked up the red telephone to inform David that he had won the Jingle Jackpot competition on ITV.
Jeff began the call by asking David if he had entered the competition, to which David replied, 'I think so...' After Jeff confirmed the win, there was a long silence. Jeff asked David to switch on his TV, but David said he couldn't see him, having tuned into the wrong channel. Host Dermot O'Leary urged David to change channels, but further silence ensued. When Jeff asked how it felt to win, David simply responded, 'Yes.'
Co-host Alison Hammond jumped in to reassure David that it was 'not a scam,' and Jeff added that colleagues would follow up to confirm the win. Alison predicted the news would sink in later, while viewers on social media called the reaction 'strange' and 'awkward.' One wrote, 'Very strange how you don’t know whether you even entered,' while another said, 'David needs to buy a personality.'
This is not the first time Jeff has dealt with a less-than-ecstatic winner. Earlier this month, he called a woman who had won £80,000, but she did not believe him and refused to switch on her TV. Jeff later confirmed on Lorraine that the winner, Sheila, had been reassured and accepted the prize.
