Jamie Miller makes Strictly debut after No1 single

Welsh singer Jamie Miller has made his UK television debut of his number one single Babydoll on the Strictly Come Dancing results show. He was joined by Off Campus star Antonio Cipriano, who features on the track.

Earlier this week, the 29-year-old Cardiff-born singer became the first Welsh artist in 15 years to secure a number one single, following Sian Evans's feature on DJ Fresh's Louder in 2011.

Historic chart achievement

Jamie Miller is also the first solo male Welsh artist in over four decades to top the singles chart, since Shakin' Stevens's 1985 festive hit Merry Christmas Everyone. He began his career nearly a decade ago, aged 19, after placing third on the sixth series of The Voice UK.

The performance marked their first UK television performance of the song of the moment. In addition to singing, the pair performed their viral Babydoll dance alongside four of the Strictly Pros.

Celebrity reactions

In a video posted to social media, Jamie and Antonio performed the dance alongside the pros, the judges, the hosts and the celebs. Head judge Shirley Bassey commented: "I CANT BELIEVE I BABY DOLLED WITH JAMIE MILLER."

Pro dancer Julian Caillon said: "This was so fun." Contestant Dani Dyer added: "What a moment to be able to do this. so fun!!!"

Chart success and viral trend

When it was announced that they reached number one, Jamie told the Official Charts: "I don't even know what to say other than thank-you so much for getting me number one, this is the biggest thing that's ever happened to me in my life, I love you guys."

Initially released in August, the track has gradually ascended the charts following the launch of a remixed version featuring Antonio Cipriano. The song has subsequently exploded in popularity, becoming a viral sensation across social media platforms, with users participating in a Babydoll dance trend.

The Strictly Come Dancing results show airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 7.10pm.
