Jamie Laing Secures Channel 4 Boat Race Hosting Gig Alongside Clare Balding and Ade Adepitan

Former Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing has announced an exciting new television role, joining the presenting team for The CHANEL J12 Boat Race this weekend. The presenter and podcaster will work alongside seasoned broadcasters Clare Balding and Ade Adepitan to cover the historic annual rowing event between Oxford and Cambridge universities.

Live Coverage from the River Thames with Enhanced Commentary Team

Broadcasting live from a fresh studio at the starting line in Putney, the team will provide comprehensive coverage of one of the world's oldest and most prestigious amateur sporting events. The Championship Course stretches 4.25 miles along the tidal Thames from Putney to Mortlake, with Oxford University Boat Club and Cambridge University Boat Club battling oar-to-oar for victory.

The commentary team will be led by Alex Jacques, supported by Olympic gold-medal winning rower Martin Cross and Olympic silver-medal winning rower Jess Eddie as co-commentators. Three-time Olympic gold medallist Pete Reed OBE will serve as pundit throughout the broadcast.

Scientific Insight and Expanded Youth Coverage

Broadcaster and mathematician Hannah Fry will contribute to the coverage by exploring the science of rowing while championing Cambridge Men and Women in her capacity as Professor of Public Understanding of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge.

Channel 4 will also spotlight the Youth Boat Race for the first time on British television. Backed by the Oxford and Cambridge Rowing Foundation, the youth event is scheduled for Friday, April 3, with coverage included in Saturday's main broadcast.

Jamie Laing Expresses Enthusement for New Role

Discussing his new position, Jamie confessed he "can't wait" for the opportunity, stating: "The Boat Race is always such a brilliant day, it's London's party by the river. Joining Clare, Ade and the team to present coverage of such an iconic occasion is a pure thrill."

The presenter further elaborated: "I can't wait to meet the incredible athletes taking part and get in amongst the action with the fans on the banks of the Thames and at the finish line to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of the crews."

Disney+ Documentary Offers Intimate Look at Family Life

This professional development comes as Jamie and his wife Sophie Habboo prepare to offer fans an intimate glimpse into their private life through a new reality series on Disney+. The couple, who married in April 2023, will feature in a three-part documentary series tracking Sophie's pregnancy and the birth of their son Ziggy.

In teaser clips released ahead of the premiere, viewers witness emotional moments including a heated argument where Sophie labels Jamie's behaviour as "unacceptable" and a hospital visit where the couple receives concerning news about their baby's position requiring an emergency c-section.

The documentary captures tender moments between the couple, including Jamie reassuring Sophie during the birth with the words, "It's alright you got this. You got this," while kissing her forehead.

The CHANEL J12 Boat Race 2026 will air on Channel 4 on Saturday, April 4 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, with streaming available on Channel 4's digital platforms. Meanwhile, Raising Chelsea premieres on Disney+ on Thursday, April 2, offering viewers dual opportunities to follow Jamie Laing's professional and personal journeys.
