James Acaster outed himself as a Traitor during the penultimate episode of Celebrity Traitors, confessing his identity before the roundtable voting. The confession came as the pressure mounted on all remaining contestants, with Acaster admitting he had never wanted to be a Traitor and had been selected by fellow players Maya Jama and Richard E Grant.
Acaster's Confession and Finale Build-Up
Speaking to his fellow celebrities, Acaster said: "Who would have thought? I wanted to be Faithful so much, but at the beginning, I made sure I pointed out the perfume bottles to everyone so no one forgot them." He added, "And I am so proud of you guys for catching me the way that you did. And I wanted it to be that I was found logically and in a way that was, yeah, you followed clues and and got me."
He continued: "I'm glad that I got to play this game on my own terms. I told the truth, I tried to help them, and supported my fellow Traitors as well, because they mean the world to me."
Seven Finalists and Traitor Dynamics
The confession leaves seven finalists, including Traitors Maya Jama and King Kenny. Fans have debated whether Acaster's decision made it harder or easier for the remaining Traitorous duo. Following his exit, Acaster explained how his decision to leave has made the final better.
"I feel pretty good getting to episode nine, and now we've got a proper final on our hands. With three Traitors, it would have been a foregone conclusion that we were going to win," he said. "Don't get me wrong, I thought it was hilarious at one point that we were just going to walk our way to the final and win the whole thing, but this is much better, isn't it?"
Outlook on the Final
Asked if he thinks Maya and Kenny could take the win, he added: "I don't know. I believe in them, I've got a lot of faith in them. They're excellent Traitors, but you still have James Blunt. James Blunt is ferocious in this game. He is a man possessed."
The BBC series will air its dramatic finale tonight, with twists and turns expected as the remaining finalists compete.
