ITV has confirmed the future of one of Coronation Street's most cherished stars amid speculation over his departure. Jack P Shepherd rose to prominence portraying David Platt on the enduring ITV soap, first appearing on screen back in 2000.
David Platt's Journey on the Cobbles
As the son of iconic character Gail Platt (Helen Worth), David has been at the centre of numerous major storylines. From the heartbreaking murder of his first wife Kylie (Paula Lane) to navigating a profoundly moving male rape storyline, his journey in Weatherfield has been packed with drama. Particularly of late, as troubled sister-in-law Jodie Ramsay (Olivia Frances-Brown) has been wreaking havoc among fellow residents in recent weeks. After worming her way into the lives of David and half-sister Shona (Julia Goulding), Jodie even made an attempt to seduce David while he was intoxicated, deceiving him by masquerading as Shona in bed.
Off-Screen Life and Paternity Leave
Off-screen, David actor Jack is happily settled with wife Hanni Treweek, who is expecting their first child together. Consequently, ITV has confirmed that Jack will be stepping away from the soap briefly for a "couple of weeks' paternity leave," reports the Daily Star. Jack and Hanni shared their pregnancy news on Valentine's Day (14th February), seven months after they exchanged vows in July 2025, with the ceremony held at Manchester Cathedral.
Baby Announcement and Social Media Updates
They unveiled their delightful baby announcement through a touching social media post, as Hanni shared footage of them strolling through the grounds of a country estate before Jack tenderly cradled and kissed her bump. She captioned the clip: "We've been keeping a secret...June 2026. Thank you so much to the dream team who made this so special for us." Last week, on Thursday (11th June), Hanni disclosed she is expecting to give birth this month as she marked her birthday. Taking to Instagram, she posted a stunning photograph of herself wearing a flowing black dress that highlighted her baby bump. Accompanying the image, she penned: "All dressed up for afternoon tea. My last birthday before I can call myself a mama and we have two June babies [hearts and face holding back tears emojis]." She subsequently shared a photograph of Jack, who this week unveiled his shaven head for the first time following a third hair transplant, as he smiled cheerfully between their stands of food and glasses of fizz, writing: "My gorgeous husband [heart eyes emojis]." Hanni also gushed as they posed together for a photograph before welcoming their first child: "Love you baby [face holding back tears emoji]."
