ITVX's Joan Hickson Miss Marple Series Hailed as 'Best Ever' by Agatha Christie Fans

Agatha Christie enthusiasts have taken to social media to praise the Joan Hickson-starring Miss Marple series, currently available on ITVX, as the 'best ever' adaptation of the beloved detective's stories. The series, originally broadcast on BBC One from 1984 to 1992, is lauded for its faithfulness to Christie's novels.

On Reddit, a user sparked debate by asking for the best Miss Marple adaptation, prompting responses that overwhelmingly favoured Hickson's portrayal. One fan commented: 'The Joan Hickson TV series. She's my favourite!' Another added: 'All of Joan Hickson's adaptations are really faithful, and are usually split into multiple parts to not rush the pace.'

The series, titled 'Agatha Christie's Miss Marple', adapts all 12 original Miss Marple novels. Hickson, who was in her eighties during filming, had previously appeared in a supporting role in 'Why Didn't They Ask Evans?' (1980) and in the film 'Murder, She Said' with Margaret Rutherford. Notably, Christie herself once wrote to Hickson: 'I hope one day you will play my dear Miss Marple.'
