ITV has released a first-look trailer for its upcoming drama series Adultery, a provocative love story set to premiere this autumn. The six-part series features an ensemble cast including Atonement star Romola Garai, Mamma Mia! actor Dominic Cooper, Bridgerton's Shelley Conn, and After the Flood's Matthew McNulty.
Plot Overview
The series centers on Tom Kirkman (Cooper) and Beth Brookes (Garai), who share an intense connection upon meeting. However, complications arise when Tom's teenage daughter begins dating Beth's son, Ollie. As Tom and Beth struggle to deny their chemistry, they must confront guilt and potential fallout for their families and partners, Hannah (Conn) and Neil (McNulty).
According to ITV's synopsis: "Adultery is a provocative love story of passion, parenthood and peril that raises questions about class, grief and the effects of social media. Naturally authentic and bristling with forbidden desire, it focuses on two families and the love affair that threatens to uproot their whole lives."
Trailer Highlights
In the trailer, a voiceover poses a question: "There's a psychological equation. Attraction, plus an obstacle, equals excitement. But what happens if the attraction is too strong? What then?" The teaser cuts between Tom and Beth's interactions, from their first meeting to escalating intimacy. One clip shows them caught kissing on a door camera, with Tom's daughter watching in horror. Another depicts a violent confrontation between two men, while Beth is seen running down a street at night in tears.
Viewer Reactions
Social media responses to the trailer have been positive. One viewer commented: "Been waiting for this one! It looks so good!!" Another wrote: "Ooh, looks good and a great cast." A third added: "This looks good."
Adultery will air on ITV and STV later this autumn and will be available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player.
