ITV Addresses Claims of The Chase Production Pause
ITV has officially responded to swirling rumours that the popular quiz show The Chase is halting production, following the completion of filming for its nineteenth series. This clarification comes amidst persistent speculation linking the show's long-time host, Bradley Walsh, with the vacant presenting role on Strictly Come Dancing.
Reports of Filming Schedule Changes
Recent reports had suggested that production on new episodes of The Chase would be paused for at least a year, with the programme's roster of Chasers—including fan favourites like Mark "The Beast" Labbett and Anne "The Governess" Hegerty—allegedly informed of plans to air repeats instead of creating new content. A source described the news as "quite a shock and very disappointing," adding that many crew members felt "worried and scared for the future during an uncertain time in TV."
The source further emphasised the show's enduring popularity, stating to The Sun: "It’s a shame as the show has survived for 17 years and remains one of the most popular quiz shows on telly. It’s won countless awards and is much loved." Typically, around 120 episodes are filmed annually in three separate stints, with breaks of approximately two months between each.
ITV's Official Statement
However, ITV has moved to downplay these claims. A spokesperson for the broadcaster told the Mirror: "The Chase has just finished recording series 19, which completes its recording schedule for this year. ITV continue to air The Chase as usual, with a combination of new and repeat episodes across the year. With over 2.5 million viewers per show, The Chase remains one of the nation’s most loved quiz shows."
The spokesperson also sought to reassure fans by highlighting upcoming content: "There is also a new Beat the Chasers for 2026 and a brand new spin-off series: The Chase Around the World coming soon." This statement aims to quell concerns about the show's future, reinforcing its strong viewership and continued presence on air.
Bradley Walsh's Strictly Come Dancing Links
Amidst this backdrop, Bradley Walsh, who has presented The Chase since 2009, finds himself at the centre of rumours regarding the Strictly Come Dancing presenter role. This position became available following the exits of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. Walsh, 65, previously called the role a "great gig" last year, fuelling speculation about his potential involvement.
Despite the links, Walsh has attempted to distance himself from the role earlier this year. In a detailed account to the Radio Times, he explained that hosting Strictly would "ruin" his weekends, outlining a typical winter routine filled with watching shows like I’m a Celebrity, football matches, and Match of the Day. He stated: "If I was to host Strictly, it would absolutely ruin my weekend."
The convergence of these reports—production rumours for The Chase and Walsh's career moves—highlights the ongoing dynamics in British television, where scheduling decisions and presenter roles remain topics of keen public interest.
