Hulu's psychological thriller 'The Patient' has found a new streaming home on ITVX, and it's already climbing the TV charts. The 10-part limited series, starring Steve Carell and Domhnall Gleeson, has won widespread critical acclaim since its 2022 release.
Plot Overview
Full of twists and turns, 'The Patient' follows Alan Strauss (Carell), a psychotherapist mourning the loss of his wife when he's plunged into a living nightmare. Kidnapped by a patient he barely knows, Alan is terrified when Sam Fortner (Gleeson) chains him up in his basement and makes a startling revelation. Confessing that he's a serial killer who can't control his compulsions, Sam explains that he's kidnapped Alan in the hopes that, with therapy, he can curb his homicidal urges for good. Desperate to survive and stop Sam from killing again, Alan begins holding regular sessions while secretly plotting his escape.

'This is an excellent show,' a second agreed. 'It is rare that a show makes you work hard and really think about what you are seeing and hearing. Steve Carell is such a good actor, and his performance as a psychotherapist, good man and flawed father is so strong and affecting. Domhnall Gleeson is an equally good actor, and his performance as the serial killer trying to understand and maybe stop acting out his compulsions is mesmerising and disconcerting.'
