The Three Lions skipper gave the Three Lions the lead against Croatia in the 12th minute. However, it proved to be a heart in mouth moment for the skipper as he attempted a stutter penalty and saw it be saved by Dominik Livaković. Fortunately for the Bayern Munich forward, he was able to have another go as the shot-stopper was adjudged to have left his goal-line before Kane took the spot-kick. On his second attempt, Kane took a more traditional penalty and found the far corner.
By the time Kane found the net, those watching on ITV at home may have only just recovered from what Matterface said about him. As the former Tottenham Hotspur striker lined up to take his first spot-kick, Matterface said Kane was a "penalty merchant". This term has often been used by rival fans to poke fun at Kane.
One fan wrote: "Commentator calling Kane a penalty merchant is hella disrespectful (we ignore the miss)." Another added: "The commentator calling Kane a penalty merchant btw. Respect my striker." A third supporter also said: "Matterface calling Kane a penalty merchant and then he misses," before a fourth tweeted: "Why did the ITV commentator call Harry Kane a penalty merchant."
