Leo Suter steps into the role of DI Tommy Lynley in a polished reboot of the 2000s series, based on Elizabeth George's novels. The show airs at 8.30pm on BBC One.
Suter, known for roles in Sanditon and Vikings: Valhalla, plays the aristocratic detective paired with working-class DS Barbara Havers, portrayed by Sofia Barclay. Havers dismisses Lynley as a 'fresh-faced city boy who doesn’t know his arse from his elbow,' but their contrasting styles may prove effective as they tackle their first murder case.
The episode also features a crossover special on ITV1 at 8pm, where characters from Emmerdale and Coronation Street collide in a dramatic car crash. Meanwhile, Channel 4 at 8pm presents a documentary with Gemma Atkinson exploring the protein craze, and BBC Two at 8.30pm continues the University Challenge quarter-finals.
Later, at 9pm on BBC Two, historian Lucy Worsley investigates the Victorian Thames Torso Murderer case, beginning with a torso found in the river in 1887. Channel 5 at 9pm follows a police investigation into a murder in a Lancashire basement squat.
