The annual winter festival Illuminate Adelaide, held on Kaurna Country, is showcasing a dazzling array of light, art, music, and technology until 19 July. The festival features life-sized robotic swans floating on Rymill Park Lake, giant interactive keyboards, and dancing mirrorball people, among other immersive installations.
Key Installations and Performances
At the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, fruit bats fly over projections on trees in a work titled Monuments by Australian artist Craig Walsh. Children interact with the Whispering Mountains installation by ENESS. The CYGNUS installation by Loomaland features life-sized robotic swans floating on Rymill Park Lake. Roving performers dance with the crowd in Mirror Me by Fresh Creative Entertainment.
Rarrirarri is an immersive experience by the Mulka Project, a collective of multimedia artists, cinematographers, sound engineers, and post-production technicians based in Yirrkala, in north-east Arnhem Land. Embrace by Australian artist Beamhacker is an interactive audiovisual experience celebrating human connection. Piano Walk by Australian artist Amigo & Amigo invites visitors to step on giant piano keys.

Neon Dog Park by Volter International offers a playful neon-lit environment. Canopy by Australian artist Robin Fox is hosted at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Dutch artists Close-Act Theatre perform their roving performance Birdmen. Fracture by Australian artist Chris Petridis is also at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Pixel Waves by Miguel Chevalier is projected onto the floor and crowds at Adelaide’s Bonython Hall. The Dream Herd by Amigo & Amigo hovers over visitors.
According to the Guardian, the festival runs until 19 July and features works from both Australian and international artists. The event transforms Adelaide’s public spaces into a luminous playground, drawing crowds to experience the intersection of technology and art.
