In a surprising behind-the-scenes revelation, Hollyoaks stalwart Jamie Lomas has confessed he initially believed a planned Brookside crossover was a legitimate job offer rather than a fictional storyline.
The actor, who has portrayed the notorious Warren Fox on and off since 2006, found himself genuinely confused when producers approached him about the ambitious crossover concept between the two iconic Channel 4 soaps.
From Confusion to Comedy
Lomas shared the amusing anecdote during a recent interview, explaining how his initial excitement about a potential new role quickly turned to bewilderment. "I thought it was a real job offer at first," the actor admitted with a laugh. "I was genuinely thinking 'Wow, this is amazing - they want me to be in Brookside!'"
The proposed crossover would have seen his character Warren Fox making an appearance in the legendary Liverpool-based soap Brookside, creating what could have been one of British television's most memorable moments.
A Missed Opportunity for Soap History
Unfortunately for soap enthusiasts, the ambitious crossover never materialised. Brookside, which had been a television staple since 1982, was ultimately axed in 2003, ending any possibility of the groundbreaking collaboration between the two Merseyside-based dramas.
"It's such a shame it never happened," Lomas reflected. "Can you imagine Warren Fox turning up on Brookside Close? It would have been television gold and something fans would still be talking about today."
Warren Fox's Enduring Legacy
Despite the missed crossover opportunity, Jamie Lomas has cemented his place in Hollyoaks history through his compelling portrayal of Warren Fox. The character has become one of the soap's most iconic figures, known for his complex storylines and dramatic exits and returns.
The actor's candid revelation provides a fascinating glimpse into the sometimes blurred lines between fiction and reality in the world of television drama, where even seasoned performers can occasionally struggle to distinguish between genuine opportunities and creative storytelling.
