The creator of the hit crime drama High Potential has offered fans a glimpse into what they can expect from the upcoming third season. Following a tense cliffhanger ending that left multiple mysteries unsolved and a character's fate hanging in the balance, viewers have been eager for answers.
What Is High Potential About?
For those unfamiliar, High Potential is a procedural crime drama centered on Morgan, a single mother with an exceptional mind and an unconventional knack for solving crimes. Her unique abilities lead to an unlikely partnership with a by-the-book, seasoned detective. The series is based on the French-Belgian show Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI). The US adaptation was created by Drew Goddard, known for his work on The Good Place, Lost, and Netflix's Daredevil. Goddard also wrote the screenplay for the recent sci-fi blockbuster Project Hail Mary.
What Did the Creator Say About Season 3?
According to Deadline, Goddard and lead actress Kaitlin Olson attended a For Your Consideration event to discuss the show's future. While they avoided giving away too much, they hinted at the themes being explored. Goddard explained: 'Season 2, for Morgan, was about the fact that she’s lived her whole life having these abilities that cause so much chaos and pain, and she finally found a place where she is appreciated for that very thing, and she was actually enjoying it. So now, she’s enjoying her job and being good at it. I think the next obvious question looking forward is: okay, but now you, the person who has been speaking truth to power, are starting to be in a more powerful position, what does that mean? How do we explore the moral implications of that and stay true to her? I think that’s going to be the interesting question that launches us into Season 3.'
Will the Show Change Its Format?
Despite the new direction, the procedural 'murder of the week' format will remain intact, much to the relief of fans who enjoy the murder-mystery element. The show is currently searching for a new co-showrunner following Todd Harthan's departure, but the writers have already begun planning season three.
What About the Romance Between Morgan and Karadec?
Another lingering question is the potential romantic storyline between Morgan and her partner Karadec. Olson addressed this in a recent interview with People magazine, stating: 'I want these characters to be well-rounded. Yes, he’s a by-the-book cop, but he’s also a human being, so I wanted to make sure that you were able to see his heart, and you do with his relationship to Morgan. That was so important. Whether they’re going to end up romantically involved or not, you see that these people really do have love for each other.'
High Potential is streaming on Disney+.
