Henry Cavill's Witcher Exit: Real Reasons Revealed

Henry Cavill's departure from The Witcher after season three has left fans stunned, given his well-documented passion for the role. Cavill, who played Geralt of Rivia since 2019, had often described the part as a dream opportunity rather than a job. However, on October 29, 2022, Netflix announced that Liam Hemsworth would take over the role from season four.

In an official statement, Cavill expressed gratitude and support for his successor, saying: 'In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.'

While no official reason has been given for Cavill's exit, sources told Deadline that he had only signed a 'short-term deal' for the show. After three seasons, it was time to move on, partly due to a demanding production schedule that required juggling other major projects. The same sources suggested that Cavill's co-stars also renegotiated their contracts ahead of season four.

Many fans speculated that Cavill's departure was linked to his return as Superman in the mid-credits scene of Black Adam, which was announced the same week. However, in December 2022, James Gunn confirmed that Cavill would not reprise the role in the new DC universe. Cavill acknowledged the news on Instagram, stating: 'I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it's sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.'
