Heated Rivalry UK Release: Fans Notice 'Sped Up' Episodes

Canadian TV hit Heated Rivalry has finally arrived in the UK, but some fans have complained that the episodes appear to be sped up compared to the original North American broadcast.

The series, which follows a love affair between two male ice hockey players, debuted on Sky and streaming service NOW on 10 January. Sky had assured viewers there would be no edits to the show's content, but some fans noticed a difference in pacing.

One viewer asked on X/Twitter: “You tell the truth - why have you pitched up/sped up the eps?” Another wrote: “Have I lost my mind or is Heated Rivalry on Sky slightly higher pitched?”

The discrepancy is likely due to technical differences between broadcast formats. In the US and Canada, TV shows are filmed at 24 frames per second, while in the UK, the standard is 25 frames per second. This small change means imported shows often run slightly faster and shorter.

For example, episode one on Sky runs for 47 minutes and 51 seconds, compared to the original 49-minute runtime. All six episodes are now available to watch on Sky and NOW.
