Harry Potter TV Reboot Casts Dominic McLaughlin as the Boy Who Lived

HBO has announced the cast for its upcoming television adaptation of the Harry Potter series, with Dominic McLaughlin set to play the iconic role of Harry Potter. The series, which will premiere globally on HBO Max on 25 December 2026, aims to be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling's books, with each season covering one of the seven novels.

Alongside McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton will portray Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley, replacing the original film trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. The casting follows an extensive search of over 30,000 actors for the three main roles.

The adult cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. Nick Frost will take on the role of Rubeus Hagrid, while Peter Serafinowicz will play Peeves the Poltergeist. Other notable additions include Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.
