Helen Flanagan left viewers of The Weakest Link astonished after answering that the White Cliffs of Dover are made of cheese. The former Coronation Street star, 33, was the first contestant eliminated on Saturday's episode of the BBC quiz show.
Host Romesh Ranganathan asked: 'In geology, the White Cliffs of Dover are principally formed of what substance - chalk or cheese?' After a brief pause, Flanagan replied: 'Cheese.' The correct answer is chalk.
Flanagan later admitted she found the experience 'terrifying'. She said: 'It's quite terrifying actually the pressure and you've got to think so quick.' She added: 'I have had fun. I wanted to stay longer. I actually did try but I was just really out of my depth.'
Viewers reacted on social media, with one writing: 'Saw this live as it happened and couldn't believe my ears.' Another tweeted: 'That really is an unbelievable answer.' Some defended Flanagan, suggesting the cliffs 'could easily be made of cheese'.
Flanagan appeared on Pointless Celebrities later that same evening alongside former co-star Lucy Fallon, reaching the final round.
