Actor Guy Pearce has spoken about his career, including the long-awaited sequel to Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, admitting he is not sure he will look as good in a dress as he did in 1993. The 55-year-old Australian star, known for films such as LA Confidential and Memento, said the sequel is still in pre-production, with the team working on the script, locations and budget.
Pearce also reflected on playing 'horrible' characters, saying he would avoid Eric from The Rover and the Reverend from Brimstone at a dinner party because they might kill him. He added that Ed Exley from LA Confidential is 'quite arrogant and boring', while Leonard from Memento would start with dessert and finish with the starter because his memory works backwards.
When asked about the most profound thing anyone has ever said to him, Pearce recalled a comment from his partner, who said if she were ever to leave him, it would be for 'Mike from Neighbours' – the character Pearce played early in his career. Pearce suggested she watch his more sinister roles, such as Charley Rakes in Lawless, to lose interest.
On Memento, Pearce revealed that the script was sent to him exactly as it appears in the film – backwards. He praised director Christopher Nolan as 'king of control' for constructing a story with no room for improvisation.
Regarding LA Confidential, Pearce admitted he had no idea it would become a masterpiece while filming, as he was too focused on doing a good job in a new environment with American actors.
