Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch as a single-player only experience, sparking speculation about the release date of GTA 6 Online. In marketing materials for pre-orders, which open at midnight local time on June 25, the developer described GTA 6 as featuring 'a single-player experience launching on 19th November to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.'
GTA 6 Online Launch Pattern Mirrors GTA 5
The omission of any mention of GTA 6 Online in the pre-order details has led fans to believe the multiplayer component will follow a similar timeline to its predecessor. When Grand Theft Auto 5 launched in 2013, GTA Online debuted two weeks later, giving players time to complete the single-player campaign before diving into the multiplayer mode. If Rockstar follows the same pattern, GTA 6 Online could launch in early December 2025, just in time for the Christmas holiday season.
Pre-Order Details and Editions
Fans can pre-order GTA 6 from midnight local time on June 25, with a November 19 launch date. Pre-order bonuses are available for purchases made by November 20. The Standard Edition includes the base game and pre-order bonuses, while the Ultimate Edition adds exclusive in-game items such as classic cars, tattoos, weapons, and locations only accessible to Ultimate Edition owners. No official announcement has been made regarding GTA 6 Online, but Rockstar's wording strongly suggests a staggered release.
What This Means for GTA 6 Online
The single-player focus at launch allows Rockstar to polish the online experience further, ensuring a smooth rollout. Given the massive success of GTA Online, which has generated billions in revenue since 2013, a delayed launch could also build anticipation. However, fans should expect official confirmation from Rockstar in the coming months. For now, the pre-order campaign emphasizes the single-player campaign as 'the biggest and most immersive evolution of the series yet,' according to Rockstar's post.
