Crime drama RJ Decker, starring Grey's Anatomy actor Scott Speedman, has finally arrived on Disney+ in the UK months after its premiere in the United States. The series, based on Carl Hiaasen's 1987 novel Double Whammy, premiered on ABC in March 2026 and dropped its full first season on Disney+ on July 14, 2026.
Plot and Cast
The series follows R.J. Decker, a discredited newspaper photographer and ex-convict who starts over as a private investigator in South Florida. The synopsis states: 'He tackles cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife, and a shadowy new benefactor.' The cast includes Jaina Lee Ortiz (Station 19), Kevin Rankin (Friday Night Lights), Adelaide Clemens (Parade's End), David Zayas (Dexter), Rizwan Manji (Peacemaker), Tamera Mowry (Sister, Sister), and Rich Sommer (Mad Men).
Reception and Renewal
The nine-episode first season has been renewed for a second season. Viewers on Reddit have praised the show. User @TheHumanTarget84 said: 'It's got a strong cast that elevates a perfectly decent show to pretty good! I am shocked about how much material they burn through so quickly though.' @Criticaltundra777 added: 'I thought it would suck. But turns out it’s a good show. I’m a huge magnum PI fan.' @Traditional_Good_413 wrote: 'I'm 12 minutes in and already hooked. That's rare these days.'
Scott Speedman's Role
Speedman, who plays Dr. Nick Marsh on Grey's Anatomy, initially appeared in a guest role in 2017 before becoming a main character in 2021. The recent season finale saw his character get engaged to Meredith Grey. Speedman's performance in RJ Decker has been described as 'superb' by fans.
