Greg Davies, the comedian and sitcom star, is set to host the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday, May 10, at London's Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall. The ceremony will be broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer from 7pm. He takes over from Alan Cumming, who hosted the 2025 show.
Davies was born on May 14, 1968, in St Asaph, Wales. His father ensured he was born in Wales to make him eligible for the Welsh rugby team. However, Davies spent 13 years as a secondary school teacher, teaching English and Drama, before turning to comedy. He has said he probably taught for too long: 'I had some great times, but I don't think I needed to do 13 years of it; I'd made my point after five or six.'
Davies grew up in Wem, Shropshire, and in 2025 was made an honorary townsman there. He started stand-up comedy in 2005 after encouragement from an ex-girlfriend. His TV debut was as 'Big Greg' in Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow. He was also a member of the sketch group We Are Klang.
His breakthrough role was as Mr Gilbert in The Inbetweeners. He also played a teacher in his own sitcom Man Down, and has starred in Cuckoo and The Cleaner. Since 2015, he has hosted Taskmaster, where his 'assistant' Alex Horne is the show's creator. Horne said Davies was the 'only choice' for the role.
Davies stands at 6ft 8in (2.03m), and often refers to Horne as 'Little' Alex Horne, despite Horne being 6ft 2in. He keeps his personal life private; he is not married, has no children, and is currently thought to be single.
