Grantchester star Robson Green has teased a dark season ten plot that 'fractures the family'. The beloved detective drama returns to ITV on Wednesday, January 7, with eight new episodes.
Robson Green and Rishi Nair reprise their roles as DI Geordie Keating and Reverend Alphy Kottaram. The duo formed a partnership in the previous series following the departure of Reverend Will Davenport (Tom Brittney). Returning cast members include Al Weaver as Leonard Finch, Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs C, Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating, Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel Marlowe, Nick Brimble as Jack Chapman, Bradley Hall as DC Larry Peters and Melissa Jones as Miss Scott.
Writer and executive producer Daisy Coulam hinted at challenges for Geordie and Alphy, saying: 'It's about Geordie and Alphy, and Geordie discovering about Alphy that maybe he isn't quite the glass half full guy that he seems to be... For everyone, it's about identity and parents and children.'
Robson Green explained how the relationship is tested: 'What you have to do... you have to fracture those relationships. You want the audience to go, 'Oh no, they're falling apart.' And that's the journey I go on with Alphy.' He added that Alphy harbours a secret which 'comes to the surface in series ten, which has a profound effect on their relationship and really fractures the family of Grantchester'.
The opening episode sees Alphy preparing an Easter celebration programme. Local resident Reg stages a one-man protest outside the church before being found dead from a gunshot wound. Geordie and Alphy must investigate whether it was suicide or something more sinister.
Grantchester season 10 premieres on ITV1 and ITVX at 9pm on Wednesday, January 7.
