The Siddiqui family, known for their appearances on the Channel 4 show Gogglebox, have issued an apology after posting a joke photograph on Facebook with the caption 'ISIS training day'. The image showed brothers Baasit, Raza and Umar wearing camouflage clothing ahead of a paintballing trip.
The post, uploaded by Raza Siddiqui, was reported to Derbyshire Police by a member of the public. In a statement on Twitter, Baasit Siddiqui wrote: 'We are extremely sorry for any offence caused. The image on Facebook was meant to be light-hearted but was clearly a joke that was misjudged.'
Derbyshire Police confirmed they had investigated the matter but concluded that no offences had been committed. A spokesperson said: 'We are satisfied that the caption was not intended to be taken seriously, and there was no link to terrorism whatsoever. We will be offering suitable words of advice to those who uploaded it.'
A spokesman for Gogglebox confirmed that the incident would not affect the family's position on the show, stating: 'The Siddiquis have not been under investigation by local police. They are aware that this post was misjudged and have apologised for their mistake.'
