Gogglebox Stars Criticise Holly Willoughby's Matt Hancock Interview

Gogglebox viewers saw the show's cast members express frustration with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield's interview with Health Secretary Matt Hancock on This Morning. The segment, which aired on Monday, featured the presenters hosting a barbecue to celebrate the easing of lockdown restrictions, with Mr Hancock answering questions from a distance.

During the episode, the Warner sisters Izzie and Ellie reacted to the interview, with Izzie remarking, 'Correct, Phillip,' after Schofield noted that many lockdown questions remained unanswered. Ellie added, 'No way, they have got Matt Hancock in the garden!' Meanwhile, Louis Michaels in Brighton was cynical, saying, 'He wants to cash in on the fact that he is not the bearer of bad news, for once.'

Mary and Giles, watching from their armchairs, were unhappy with Willoughby's question about whether the lockdown was final. Mary said, 'How can he know? She can’t ask that? He can’t know that?' Louis then commented, 'It’s a bulls**t question and he is going to give a bulls**t answer.'

At the Malone household, Tom Sr mocked Mr Hancock's response of 'I very much hope so' by repeating, 'He thinks so, he hopes so.' Lee and Pete joked about a wheelie bin seen behind the politician, with Pete saying, 'Oh Matt, your speech is here.'

When Mr Hancock stated that people could travel to see friends and family but should minimise travel, Izzie remarked, 'Basically he is saying, travel but don’t travel.' Lee also questioned Mr Hancock's claim that he hadn't been home to Suffolk since November, asking, 'Was he allowed to go in November?'

Overall, the Gogglebox cast appeared unimpressed by the Health Secretary's performance, though they found more entertaining viewing later in the programme.
