A former employee of Gogglebox has taken to Reddit to answer questions about the inner workings of the popular Channel 4 show. The anonymous whistleblower addressed long-standing rumours and provided insight into the production process.
When asked whether the show is scripted, the former employee insisted it is not. However, they revealed that families are briefed before filming about what they will watch, and producers preview the shows to identify sections likely to provoke reactions.
Regarding payment, the employee confirmed that all families are paid. In the first season, the production also bought their dinner if they wanted a takeaway. The former employee declined to elaborate on what content is cut, citing fear of being sued, but noted that some memorable moments involved Steph and Dom Parker getting drunk, Leon’s humorous comments, and risqué remarks from the Brighton cast.
The filming schedule is arranged around the families’ availability, as it is not a full-time job. Producers coordinate who can watch what and when to fit the schedule.
