On Rotten Tomatoes, the show holds an audience score of 93% positive from over 500 ratings, while critics have given it 79% positive from 33 reviews. The Daily Telegraph praised Oyelowo's performance, noting that Quaid and Sutherland 'are loving every brutal minute'. JoBlo's Movie Network called it 'a great addition to Taylor Sheridan's library', and Variety described it as 'a more sustainable execution of the power producer’s distinct vision'.
