Good Morning Britain viewers expressed frustration during a live debate about whether employers should grant half-days off for England's World Cup knockout match against the Democratic Republic of Congo. The segment, hosted by Ranvir Singh and Ed Balls on Wednesday, July 1, sparked a wave of complaints on social media.
Debate Over Half-Day Requests
The discussion featured Lindi Glass, founder of Explode Social Media, who supports giving staff a half-day to watch the 5pm kick-off, and Claudia Hearne, a construction business owner who opposes the idea. Lindi argued that the World Cup occurs only every four years and boosts morale and productivity. Claudia countered that multiple matches could lead to many half-days, questioning the economic impact if millions of workers took time off.
Lindi responded, "Claudia, you're at risk of sounding like a blithering plutocrat," adding that her statement was incorrect. Viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize the debate.

A third commented, "This programme is more ridiculous than ever," while another asked, "Why do u need a half day to get home an hour early?"
