Great British Bake Off Makes History With First-Ever Deaf Contestant | Mirror
GBBO's First Deaf Baker Makes History in 2024 Series

The Great British Bake Off is set to make its most heart-warming and historic return to our screens this autumn, championing inclusivity like never before. For the first time in the show's illustrious history, a deaf baker will be stepping into the hallowed tent, ready to prove her mettle with a whisk and a rolling pin.

The groundbreaking contestant is Tasha, a 27-year-old participation officer from Bristol. She will be baking alongside her interpreter, Daryl, ensuring seamless communication with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, as well as hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond. Tasha will also be using British Sign Language (BSL) throughout the competition.

A Warm and Supportive Welcome

Early reports from the tent suggest Tasha's presence has created an incredibly positive and educational environment. Judge Paul Hollywood has been enthusiastically learning key BSL phrases to communicate directly with her, a move that has been warmly received by viewers and advocates alike.

Fellow baker Rowan, a 21-year-old student, has also been praised for his efforts in picking up some sign language, showcasing the supportive spirit that defines this year's cohort. This move towards greater representation has been hailed as a significant step forward for disability visibility on primetime television.

Tasha is part of the diverse and talented group of 12 amateur bakers revealed for the new series. The full list of contestants hoping to be crowned the UK's best baker includes:
