Paul Hollywood's Brutal Verdict Stuns Bake Off Contestant

The latest episode of The Great British Bake Off saw judge Paul Hollywood deliver a series of harsh critiques that left contestants reeling. During the Signature Bake, which required brownies, Hollywood was unimpressed with the efforts, prompting presenter Noel Fielding to describe his reaction as 'brutal'.

Contestant Peter was the first to face the judges with his date and fig upside-down brownies flavoured with cinnamon. While Prue Leith praised the chewiness, Hollywood declared: 'Think there's too much cinnamon actually. It's overtaking the chocolate. Different, risky, it's okay.' Fielding immediately called the verdict 'brutal', and Peter responded: 'Disappointing.'

Laura also received negative feedback, with Hollywood noting her brownies 'look a mess' and Leith criticising the excessive sweetness from caramel, meringue, and chocolate. Laura later remarked to fellow contestant Lottie: 'Ruthless!'

Marc faced similar criticism after admitting he ran out of time. Hollywood said: 'Think the flavour is okay but looks a mess. Brownies are one of the most basic things to make, if you can't get that right…'

Ultimately, Sura was eliminated, while Mark was crowned Star Baker. The episode highlighted the high standards of the competition, which continues Tuesday on Channel 4 at 8pm.
