Gabriella Power has announced she is leaving News24, formerly known as Sky News Australia, after nearly 10 years. The 33-year-old will host her final show on December 10.
Describing it as an "extraordinary privilege" to work for the digital news platform, Gabriella looked back at the last three years presenting her show 'Power Hour', which was launched in 2024. She also reflected on the major news stories covered on the programme, from Donald Trump's assassination attempt to Charlie Kirk's death, which she described as her "toughest" day on air.
Announcement on air
"Welcome to Power Hour. Before we get into the show today, I have some news of my own to share," Gabriella began. "After almost 10 years with News24, which was previously Sky News Australia, I will be finishing here at the end of the year."
"It has been such an extraordinary privilege to be able to work here and to host Power Hour has been a dream come true. It is such an honor to be able to connect with all of you who have been kindly watching and supporting this show from all over the world. We launched Power Hour at the start of 2024 and it has been an incredible three years."
Reflection on coverage
She continued: "We've covered a lot together, from the blockbuster US election campaign, Donald Trump's assassination attempts, multiple attempts, losing the brilliant Charlie Kirk. That was probably the toughest day on air I've ever had."
"Also covering the chaos that we continue to see across Europe and there has been some massive royal scandals that we have covered as well. I don't think there's been a dull moment at all. For me personally, it has been such a pleasure to host this show. There have been tears on occasions, not very often. Plenty of laughs and some fascinating interviews and great conversations."
Gratitude and fan reaction
Gabriella went on to express gratitude to those who have tuned into her show over the years, adding: "I want to say from the bottom of my heart, a massive thank you to all of you for watching and supporting the show. I'm truly grateful for each and every one of you. You have made it such a big success. We have hit more than 250 episodes and we have recorded well over 300 million views."
"I also want to say a massive thank you to the team here at News24 who have worked tirelessly on this show and who have made it go from strength to strength. I'm so grateful to be surrounded by the best journalists, producers, studio crew, editors. We have the best team. The whole team here is just absolutely incredible. And of course, a big thank you to my bosses here at News24 for giving me this opportunity and for all their support."
Fans were devastated by the announcement as they shared how much they would miss Gabriella. "I'm really going to miss you Gabs," one penned as another commented: "Omg nooo, you'll be surely missed. I hope you have a wonderful future, I can't believe it." Another said: "Gabriella is an absolute gem. Stunning smile, wonderful presentations and personality. It's been a pleasure getting the news from you!" A fourth echoed: "Damm, Gabby, so sorry to see you go. All the best for your future." Another posted: "This breaks my heart. I am an American but I watch you everyday. I am truly going to miss you. YouTube will not be the same without you. I wish you all the best."
