Fletcher's Family Farm Concludes as ITV Unveils New Sunday Morning Programme

The final episode of Fletcher's Family Farm aired this past weekend, marking the end of Kelvin and Liz Fletcher's popular ITV series. ITV has officially announced that a brand new show will take over the Sunday morning time slot starting April 19.

Josie Gibson's Culinary Adventure Takes the Slot

From Sunday, April 19, Josie's Taste of the West Country will replace Fletcher's Family Farm at 11:30am. The programme features Josie Gibson, a proud Bristolian, embarking on a culinary tour of the West Country. The synopsis for the opening episode states: "Proud Bristolian Josie Gibson goes on a culinary tour of the region, meeting local producers, sampling regional delicacies, and celebrating people, flavours and landscapes."

It continues: "She begins in Gloucestershire, saddling up for a scenic ride before meeting Countryfile's Adam Henson and his special pigs, and helping chef Paul Ainsworth make a decadent fondue - with mustard that was written about by William Shakespeare."

Reflections on the Fletcher's Family Farm Journey

The fourth series of Fletcher's Family Farm delivered significant highs and devastating lows for the Fletcher family. The family was compelled to abandon their farmhouse following a blaze, and they made the heartbreaking discovery that their cow, Cherry, had passed away.

Kelvin Fletcher expressed his shock, stating: "It's absolutely heartbreaking. I've no idea at all about what's caused it. I'm just surprised how shocking it is, to be honest, I'm just having a bit of shock."

In a recent ITV episode broadcast in March, the couple discussed their Fletcher's products, which help to "keep the farm thriving." Following the fire that left them without a home, they devised a plan to generate revenue from their sheep's fleece by transforming the wool into blankets.

Liz Fletcher explained: "Shearing the animals actually leaves us out of pocket, and by transforming the wool into blankets, we could claw back some of those costs." She highlighted the stark reality facing farmers, noting that they must scale up operations to increase income because "farmers are struggling."

Future Hopes and Family Legacy

Sharing her vision for the future, Liz emphasised the importance of involving their children in the farming business. She said: "Having the kids involved and helping just makes it special, because they'll one day, hopefully, take over, and me and Kelvin can be in the Bahamas. So I'm hoping that the kids are doing all this, and we're just sitting back, and they're sending us money."

Kelvin added: "You know what I would actually love, let's say in, I don't know, 20 years from now, that I'm just kind of the farm handyman, the farm labourer, and that the kids are running a big farming enterprise." When Liz questioned whether Kelvin could ever relinquish control, he responded: "I think that's probably the hardest thing for most farming families, to let go."

The conclusion of Fletcher's Family Farm marks the end of an era for ITV's Sunday morning programming, with viewers now anticipating Josie Gibson's new culinary series. The Fletchers' journey has resonated with audiences, showcasing both the challenges and aspirations of modern farming life.
