Fans demand Miranda Hart TV revival after Traitors

Miranda Hart fans are calling for the comedian to appear more on television and potentially revive her former sitcom after her popularity on Celebrity Traitors soared.

Miranda's original series and career

Miranda originally aired on BBC Two from 9 November 2009, and later on BBC One. It was developed from Hart's semi-autobiographical BBC Radio 2 comedy Miranda Hart's Joke Shop (2008).

The situation comedy revolves around socially inept Miranda, who frequently finds herself in awkward situations. The show features actors Sarah Hadland, Tom Ellis and Patricia Hodge.

Health battle and Celebrity Traitors comeback

In 2015, the star wrapped up filming her show while suffering with undiagnosed Lyme disease, which eventually became myalgic encephalomyelitis, a condition more commonly known as chronic fatigue syndrome.

Miranda had not been seen on television for some time as she battled with her diagnosis, but made her comeback appearing on hit BBC series Celebrity Traitors. She soon became a fan favourite on the series as the ultimate faithful, and fans were left devastated after she was the latest star to be murdered by the traitors.

Upon learning the news she had been killed, just hours after she tentatively raised questions about comedian Joanne McNally, Miranda said: “No! Absolutely not! I am so cross with myself, I was wholly focusing on my Joanne issue.”

She became emotional as she said the show had allowed her to “get back and do the thing that I love professionally, and do the things I love personally, wandering round the Scottish Highlands and connecting in nature. There was times I didn’t think that would be possible again.”

Fan reaction and potential revival

Now, fans of the comedian are hoping she will return to television again either with a revival of Miranda, or something else entirely. A source told The Sun that “there's a real appetite for more Miranda”.

“There have been conversations about whether Miranda could return among bosses. A one-off special could be a brilliant way to bring Miranda back, and the possibility of another series is something the BBC would love to explore.”

One fan gushed: “Its what I call a Miranda Revival!!!” as another added: “A bit like a Christmas special of Gavin and Stacey”. Another fan of Miranda continued: “She’s funny. Who couldn’t use a laugh and a good gallop these days!”

Not all are sold on the original series coming back, as someone penned: “I don't think a new series of her sitcom would be a good idea. I think a fresh, new Miranda Hart comedy would be a good idea though”, and another suggested: “Miranda Hart as the next inspector in Death in Paradise!! Yes please”.
