HBO's 'Euphoria' has delivered another shockingly violent wedding, with the latest episode drawing immediate comparisons to the infamous 'Red Wedding' from 'Game of Thrones'. In the third episode of season three, newlyweds Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) return home from their reception to find debt collectors waiting. They knock Cassie down, beat Nate to a bloody pulp, and chop off his pinky toe while his bride watches in horror.
The brutal scene prompted fans to draw parallels with the 'Red Wedding', which saw several main characters betrayed and murdered during a wedding feast in 'Game of Thrones' season three. One viewer wrote on X: “Haven't seen such a disastrous wedding since The Red Wedding.” Another added: “I thought the red wedding was peak chaotic wedding... then Nate and Cassie said ‘hold my toxic champagne.’”
Some fans had anticipated a wedding disaster more akin to 'Succession', which featured a vehicular manslaughter and the death of Logan Roy during his son's wedding. However, one viewer complained: “I was hoping this episode would have the same potential as Connor's wedding in the last season of Succession, but I forgot this is Euphoria.”
Before the episode spiralled into madness, Cassie and Nate's wedding featured a high school reunion of sorts, with Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer) reuniting with Maddy (Alexa Demie). The event included $50,000 floral arrangements and a quickly melting ice sculpture of the couple. The episode also marked the final appearance of Eric Dane as Cal Jacobs, who filmed his scenes after being diagnosed with ALS and died in February at age 53.
