Escape To The Chateau Makes Dramatic Comeback After Four-Year Absence
The beloved Channel 4 series Escape To The Chateau is set to return with a tenth series, four years after its sudden cancellation in 2022. The show's stars, Dick and Angel Strawbridge, have confirmed they are back in production, sharing a rare family photo on social media to celebrate the announcement.
Behind the Scenes Fallout and Allegations
The popular programme, which followed the couple's renovation of a French chateau and their events business, was axed amid reports of behind-the-scenes bust-ups and bullying allegations. Channel 4 stated it would no longer work with the Strawbridges after an inquiry into their conduct during filming. The couple have consistently denied these claims, describing them as "sad" and from "anonymous people" they barely knew.
In leaked audio from 2021, a woman alleged to be Angel was heard launching a foul-mouthed rant at a producer, including abusive language. The Strawbridges initially declined to comment but later released a statement insisting there are "two sides to every story." They emphasised their pride in the show's uniqueness and thanked Channel 4 for their support over the years.
A Family Celebration and Future Plans
In an Easter social media post, the Strawbridge family posed outside their chateau, dubbed their "forever home," with children Arthur, 12, and Dorothy, 11, along with Angel's parents. The caption read: "Family selfie taken right here…right now in our Forever Home! 3 generations enjoying a sunny spring evening."
Last month, the couple officially announced: "We are delighted to announce that we are officially back in production for Escape to the Chateau, Series 10! It's been wonderful welcoming back our Escape filming family - the unsung heroes behind the cameras." Fans have expressed excitement for the return, eager to see more of the family's adventures after the long hiatus.
Denials and Defence of Character
Angel Strawbridge defended her husband Dick in an interview with The Telegraph, stating: "If you asked every single person on our team, they would all say that Dick is completely chivalrous. He will always be that person opening doors, helping people, and if anyone upsets me, he will be the first person to take control of the situation. He is very protective."
She added that the allegations likely came from individuals they met only briefly, contrasting them with the close-knit team they considered family. The couple concluded their Instagram statement by expressing gratitude for viewer support and excitement for the future, signing off with: "The future truly could not look more exciting and we thank you for your continued love and support. Dick & Angel Xxx."
