Emmerdale fans were delighted to see real-life married couple Jeff Hordley and Zoe Henry share a scene together in Tuesday's episode (October 20), an uncommon occurrence for the pair who play Cain Dingle and Rhona Goskirk.
The actors, who met at college in 1994 and married in 2003, appeared together in The Woolpack, where Cain spoke to Rhona about Belle Dingle's (Eden Taylor-Draper) abusive former partner Tom King (James Chase), who is due to be released from custody shortly.
Fan Reactions to the On-Screen Moment
Online, fans were thrilled by the scene. One person said on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page: "So sweet to see Cain and Rhona in a scene together knowing they're together in real life." Another added: "I didn't know they were together in real life!" A third commented: "Rhona and Cain in same scenes, how lovely," while another wrote: "So nice to see Rhona and Cain sharing a scene."
A Long-Standing Partnership
Jeff and Zoe share two children: a daughter named Violet (born in 2005) and a son named Stan (born in 2008). Speaking about their relationship on Lorraine in 2022, Zoe said: "We got together at drama school. We've been together 28 years." She added: "With the connection on set, we were together for 10 years before that as well. We got together in 1994, I believe."
Jeff has also spoken about their meeting, telling Soaplife magazine in 2011: "We met at drama school in 1994. I saw Zoe and realised she was the girl for me. I made moves and, fortunately, she said yes on that occasion too."
Preference for Independence at Work
During an interview with OK!, Jeff discussed filming emotional scenes with his wife: "We did a scene the other day. We've been in this show for a long time, and we've always been in scenes together in the Woolpack, but we did our first two-hander the other day!"
Zoe told Inside Soap: "I think we probably both prefer not to work together. Of course, we enjoy each other's company, yet I think we quite enjoy each other's independence at work. I don't know how well Rhona and Cain would get on, either – although I can see why it's a source of amusement for people if we're in the same scenes."
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
