Kevin Mathurin, who plays vicar Charles Anderson on Emmerdale, has paid an emotional tribute to his co-star Karene Peter following her departure from the ITV soap. Karene, 31, made her final appearance as Naomi Walters last Thursday, after her character was accused of stealing money at work and subsequently left for Ibiza with cash from Vinny Dingle.
In an Instagram post shared on Wednesday, Mathurin described Peter as a 'beautiful human being' and praised her comedic timing. He wrote: 'Sadly, for us as friends and a team, we dealt with the goodbyes months ago. I had to hold it down for no spoilers. But it wouldn't feel right to go on without acknowledging how much you are missed right now.' He added that the 'energy was vibrant' and that Peter is 'definitely heading in the right direction'.
Peter responded in the comments, writing: 'Love you so so much words can't describe! Blessed to know you Farda. Missing you always.' The actress joined Emmerdale in June 2022 and was involved in storylines including a court appearance over a false accusation of attack.
While her co-stars will miss her, some viewers expressed relief at Naomi's exit, with one fan tweeting: 'Good riddance Naomi. Never come back. EVER!' Another said: 'Naomi was a dreadful character from day one. Glad she's gone.' Peter's next project has not yet been announced.
