Emmerdale's Ned Porteous Hints Joe Tate May Survive Deadly Attack

Emmerdale star Ned Porteous has teased the fate of his villainous character Joe Tate, suggesting he may survive a brutal attack that airs this week. The actor, who plays the soap's resident baddie, revealed that Joe's many enemies could finally catch up with him, but hinted at a possible comeback.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, Porteous said: 'Somebody’s always got it in for Joe, he doesn’t have the easiest life. But then he kind of asks for it, I suppose.' He added that if Joe survives, 'I’m sure he will [seek revenge]. There will be some sort of vengeance. It’s not a nice thing to be pushed out of a window so I’m sure he’s quite miffed about that.'

Joe has made numerous enemies through his cruel actions, including stealing his uncle's kidney, having an affair with a married woman, and drugging his brother Noah, which led to a fatal car crash. The upcoming whodunnit storyline sees one of those he has wronged take revenge, with the attack potentially proving fatal.

Porteous admitted he didn't know about the deadly plot when he returned to the ITV soap in December. 'This particular storyline I didn’t know much about,' he said. 'It’s always a game of 'What do people know? What are we allowed to say?' and I’m really bad with that.'

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
