Emmerdale viewers believe they have worked out what Dr Liam Cavanagh is hiding after his evasive behaviour during Tuesday's (October 27) murder mystery episode. The character, played by Jonny McPherson, appeared reluctant to answer questions about his past, prompting speculation among fans.
Liam's Hesitant Behaviour
During the intense episode, Liam thought he was being held hostage by a criminal, but it turned out to be a ruse for Chas Dingle to give him a "save the date" for their wedding early next year. His response was hesitant, and when speaking to Dave, who was dressed as the criminal, he refused to answer questions about his upbringing down south. Dave added that Liam definitely looked familiar.
McPherson joined the Dales in 2014 as Dr Liam Cavanagh, playing a recurring role until 2018 when he became a full-time cast member. He recently reignited his relationship with Chas Dingle after separating from Ella Forster.
Fans' Theories
In early 2023, Chas and Liam shared a brief romance and slept together, which led to Liam discovering Chas' breast cancer lump. They paused their romance while Chas focused on her treatment, during which Liam briefly dated Ella Forster. Following Zak Dingle's death, Liam and Chas reconnected and officially became a couple.
On a Reddit thread, viewers think his secret could be linked to his ex-wife, Lara, who reportedly died in 2009 from anaphylaxis caused by a severe nut allergy. One user wrote: "It could be to do with Lara or Leanna. Oh God, don’t say he loves murder mysteries bc he was responsible for his wife’s death." Another replied: "I did also think is there a chance his wife is still alive? Maybe she’s been ‘missing’ and his love for mysteries has been because he’s still trying to solve her disappearance."
Wedding Plans Teased
During the epic Corriedale crossover with Coronation Street, Lucy Pargeter teased the Manchester Evening News with wedding details. Asked whether she and Liam will finally get married, she said: "I don’t know. I don’t think it will happen soon, but I think it will eventually happen. I think we’re gonna need a bit of joy."
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and is available to stream from 7am on ITV1 and YouTube.
