The BBC has finally put an end to months of speculation by confirming that Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and Johannes Radebe will take over as the new hosts of Strictly Come Dancing. The trio will step into the shoes of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who announced their departure from the beloved competition series earlier this year.
Rigorous Selection Process
Producers conducted an extensive casting process, including filmed auditions and chemistry tests, to find the perfect replacements. Among those rumoured to have been considered were Angela Scanlon, Rylan Clark, and Alison Hammond. The new hosts are expected to bring their own unique styles to the show, with Willis known for her sleek professionalism, Widdicombe for his comedic timing, and Radebe for his dancing expertise and charisma.
Other Contenders
Zoe Ball was previously a frontrunner for the role but confirmed in May that she was not offered the position. Speaking on her podcast Dig It, she said: "I didn't get it, but it's OK. If who I think has got it, we're in safe hands and our new hosts are going to be fabulous." Alan Carr also ruled himself out, telling The Telegraph: "I didn't turn it down, I was just clumped with everyone and had to say: 'No, don't put me in the mix.' I love watching Strictly, but I don't love it enough."
Emotional Farewell to Daly and Winkleman
Daly and Winkleman hosted the pre-recorded Strictly festive special, but the 2025 series grand final marked their last live appearance in the ballroom, recorded one week before Christmas. The pair received an emotional send-off, with Anton du Beke reducing Daly to tears during a touching tribute, followed by a montage of fan-favourite moments celebrating their tenure.
The new hosting roles are among the most prestigious in UK television, requiring a significant commitment as the series runs for three months annually, with live and results shows recorded on Saturday nights. The BBC is optimistic that Willis, Widdicombe, and Radebe will recapture the dynamic energy that made Daly and Winkleman so beloved by audiences.
