Emily Maitlis is set to front a new Channel 4 documentary titled The Epstein Files, vowing to uncover the truth behind the notorious case. The announcement comes seven years after her infamous Newsnight interview with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor regarding his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Documentary Focuses on Survivors and Networks
Channel 4 has revealed that the documentary will feature first-hand testimony from survivors of Epstein's decades-long criminal operation. It will also include forensic analysis of documents, networks, and powerful individuals connected to the case. Maitlis, who will front the series, stated: "I’ve spent my career covering stories that those in power would rather we didn’t. The Epstein case is that story writ large — a web of wealth, influence and impunity that destroyed lives and was shielded by institutions we are supposed to trust."
She added: "The survivors have waited long enough. I am determined that this series will provide answers, not just raise more questions."
Background of the Epstein Scandal
In 2019, Maitlis interviewed Andrew about his links to Epstein, who he met through Ghislaine Maxwell. The trio were seen together at locations including Balmoral, Windsor Castle, and Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago club. Despite Epstein's conviction for prostituting minors, Andrew maintained contact with him. Virginia Giuffre accused Andrew of sexually assaulting her when she was 17, allegations he has emphatically denied.
During the interview, Andrew claimed he had no recollection of meeting Giuffre and said he was at a Pizza Express in Woking on the date of the alleged encounter. He also stated he stayed with Epstein in 2010 to inform him they could no longer be seen together. Following the interview, Andrew stepped back from public duties and has since been stripped of his royal titles. He was recently arrested for misconduct in public office after the release of the Epstein Files, though he continues to deny any wrongdoing.
