The Season 5 finale of Emily in Paris, set in Venice, honours assistant director Diego Borella, who died on set earlier this year. The tribute appears in the credits of the episode, which premiered on Netflix today.
Borella, an Italian crew member, collapsed during preparations for a final scene at the Hotel Danieli in August, causing a temporary pause in filming. Creator Darren Star described the incident as a tragic moment, adding that the production wanted to dedicate the final episode to him.
Borella was a locally hired third assistant director on the show, with previous credits including the 2022 Italian medical drama DOC – Nelle tue mani.
The Venice-set finale follows Lily Collins’ Emily and Ashley Park’s Mindy as they help their respective boyfriends prepare for a fashion week debut. A brief acqua alta forces a change in the catwalk plan, but the cast adapts with rain boots.
The episode also hints at a potential sixth season set in Greece, should the show be renewed.
